RE: 5th. Annual Danforth Bay Fall Rally, NH, Oct. 10-13, 2008

Which just goes to prove my theory... Saudi Arabia Loves Snowmobilers! As Sarah Palin (or Tina Fey, I can't tell them apart) would say "You betcha!"

We have about 40 hamburger rolls and 40 hot dog rolls left over from our cookout this weekend. (I froze them, they were not even opened) So if anyone wants to eliminate those for Friday night... We also have a large gourmet ice cream cake, it's actually a chocolate cake with cappucino crunch ice cream in the middle. I'll bring as much of it as will fit in our freezer. Still looking to arrive mid day Friday.

I just got back from BJ's, we have a cookout this weekend (Sarah's confirmation) so I had to get a bunch of stuff. I picked up extra plates and cutlery for the rally.

I won a $50 gas card at work yesterday. I'm thinking of selling it, first $75 takes it. I'm starting my own bailout package!

A vat of mash potatoes... sounds like something you'd like to jump into! Maybe this could become a new rally event... the Mash Potato Fling or the Gravy Boat Dive. Don't give Gerry any ideas...

Liz was still undecided on the pot luck. She was thinking of making another vat of mashed potatos/gravy again to compliment Gerry's turkey. (she did this at the mid summer) Whatever we bring, it will be an entree or part of one. We have one of those coffee holders with the pump thing if you can use one. I also still have lots of paper plates, cups, utensils and stuff here if you can use it. Basically anything you still need toward the weekend let me know and I'll make a BJ's run.

It certainly won't be the same without abusing Celia all weekend... It was probably that dance that Mike made her do that is keeping her away. I have Friday off and hope to get there early too. But it will depend upon the womenfolk. I like the idea of everyone bringing their own burgers or hot dogs, we all do that anyway, might as well keep it simple. I have a small weber that we can use too FWIW. I'm also hoping that a family we know is going to join us. Just one small obstacle to overcome. They have to actually buy an RV first. But they have a deposit on one.

Karen, do both, I'm sure Mark wouldn't mind. He could be Hugh Hefner for Halloween. Do your friends have bunny outfits?

RE: Haven't used oil since May

Natural gas fired tankless HWHs are much more energy efficient than their tankless HWH electric powered counterparts. I would have to disagree. Electric HWH (on demand) are listed as 99+% efficient. Plus, they do not have any waste heat going into the air. But I guess that would depend upon where the electricity is produced (and how it is produced).

Why not just get a Verizon broadband card? They issue one to us at work, seems to work pretty well.

RE: Haven't used oil since May

My hot water heater is the only thing in my house running on natural gas right now, and my gas bill is about $17 a month. It can't get much cheaper than that. Maybe I'm missing an angle on this, but I estimated it would take ten years to make up the difference in cost between the purchase and installation of an equivalent tankless system, and simply replacing the heater with something similar to what I currently have. That's fine, but here in the NE, a large percentage of people heat with oil, and use the same burner for hot water. In this case, the return on investment is very quick. Heating my water with oil this summer would have cost about $150 per month.

Haven't used oil since May

Just thought I'd share a recent purchase I made, now that I have had a chance to use it for over 3 months. In May I received my final home heating oil delivery for the previous season. I am on a plan where I have estimated use payments for 10 months, then we settle up in May. I was over budget and had to pay an additional $550 this year over the $2300 in payments I had made ($230 per month). This year my "budget" plan would have placed my payments closer to $400 per month due to the increased price in oil. In looking over the figures, I noticed last year I burned 152 gallons over the summer months (mid May to Mid September). This was used just for hot water. I decided to try an "on demand" electric hot water system. After some searching, I chose this unit for our needs (2 adults and one teen in a single family house). I am fortunate in that I have electrical and plumbing experience (not professional, but enough to install this unit) so the cost to me was less than $100 above the cost of the unit itself ($575). I plumbed the unit in a serial configuration to my existing 40 gallon tank, so water continues to flow through the oil fired tank. I have the option of using either system, or both at the same time. I set the temperature at 47C (about 117F) and everyone seemed happy with that temperature. With this unit, you don't add cold water to "adjust" your showers etc. The electric unit is very precise in maintaining it's output temperature. It is difficult to calculate the exact rise in my electric bill, due to the A/C units that run in the summer and raise our usage during these months, but my estimate is that the water heater added $20 per month to our electric bill. The 152 gallons would have cost approx. $650 in the same period. As you can see, the unit has almost returned it's investment in a few months. Note: I am in no way affiliated with this product

Mike it was great watching the video, especially you skipping "rocks" and then you skipping in the water! Was that a rock? Could have sworn it had sprinkles on it???
